Lets Do It Delhi (Garbage Picking Campaign)

'Lets Do It Delhi' is a citizens movement led by Prof. Kiran Walia, the Health Minister for Delhi. They believe that together the citizens of Delhi can make a difference in cleaning Delhi. On 9th of July 2010, the Residence welfare members of Hauz Khas with the help of an NGO, organised a campaign for the students of class VI, VII & VIII of our School. The students picked up garbage from the park next to our school. They were provided witha pair of gloves and were told to bring their own polythene bags. Students were asked to pick the garbage and put them in a large bin provided by the organisers. Our students were very enthusisastic picking up the garbage and thus keeping the environment clean.
NCC Camp (Kerala)
Arushi Sharma of class IX-C attended a ten days RCTC (Rock Climbing Training Camp) near Neyyar Dam, Kerala in May 2010. Activities undertaken by the students in the camp included Rock climbing, River crossing etc. Cadets were taken to Kanyakumari for an outing. Cadets from various states of India participated in the camp.
PEC India ( Physical Education Cards)
In the academic year 2010-2011 we have introduced PEC lessons for classes I to V. PEC India was the initiative taken by CBSE in collaboration with British Council to incorporate Physical Education in the regular curriculum.
To begin with we have started taking Maths and English lessons through PEC activities in co-ordination with Physical education teachers.The main aim of this programme is to provide an inclusive and interesting learning experience to children at the primary school stage. Children have the dual advantage of enjoying while learning and maintaining physical fitness.
Trip to National Museum
On 29th of April 2010, class XII - C was given the opportunity to visit National Museum as a part of History Syllabus. The main focus was on Mauryan Empire, Harappan empire & Buddha. They reflected back to see the past Indian culture & traditions. They got information about the way people lived, what they wore, their occupation etc. Students could also see the weapons and shields used in the British regime. It was a wonderful learning experience for the students.
School Sanitation Initiative
23 students from classes VIII to X along with 2 teachers Ms. Beena Varkey & Ms. Sudha Bakshi attended this programme held at Vigyan Bhawan on 27th of April 2010.The programme started with inauguration by Mr. Kapil Sibbal followed by introduction of Mr. Aamir Khan as the Brand Ambassador for the School Sanitation Programme. It also had the launch of the bio dynamic waste segregation programme followed by a pledge by the students and an interactive session.
Visit to Anandgram
15 members of Heritage Club from classes VII to IX and Ms.Srelekha Mukherjee visited Anandgram on 27th of April 2010. They visited Anandgram to supplement the topics undertaken in the activity as the current theme of the month is – ‘My Family Heritage’. The main thing that they noticed was the transition that has happened in our lifestyles which can be observed through items of daily use.
Fire Drill Programme

The Fire drill programme was conducted on 23rd of April 2010, by Mr. S.K. Sharma - officer from fire Department, New Delhi. The students of class VI to XII got an opportunity to learn through demostrations. Salient features of the programme were:
- Kinds of Fire
- Fire Safety
- Tips to control fire
- Disaster management
- Safe use of LPG
- Safe evacuation in case of emergency.
- Rescue of Casulties
- Use of fire Extinguisher.
The programme was demostrated where students got an opportunity to learn while they were doing. There was a mock - evacuation drill at the end where students of classes I to XII participated.
Workshop on how to improve school interactions and school climate by Pravah
5 students along with 2 teachers attended a workshop on how to improve school interactions and school climate by Pravah at Kaustabh Auditorium, Lalit Kala Academy on 23rd of April 2010.
Handing over Ceremony of the International Millennium Development Goals Campaign
41students along with a teacher attended Handing over Ceremony of the International Millennium Development Goals Campaign at Sanskriti School on 21st of April 2010. They enjoyed Screening of short films, followed by handing over of petitions to Mr. Deo (MP from Orissa) and a street play on Global Warming by Jamghat- NGO.
Itihaas Study Tour
Every ITIHAAS study tour is multi-disciplinary and participatory in nature. Information given relates to Geography, History, Science, Legends, Architecture and encourages critical thinking. The purpose is also to build a sensitivity in children towards the living heritage around them.
On 17th of April 2010, 130 students of class X and XII accompanied by three teachers went for an 'Itihaas Walk' to Chandi Chowk.The walk showed certain glimpses of the Chandi Chowk area like Town - Hall and Fatehpuri Masjid.The walk was memorable and fruitful, as children learnt more by actually being there rather than reading it from the text. The retention level hence becomes longer.
World Health Day
St. Paul's School celebrated the World's Health Day on 7th of April 2010 in keeping with the tradition followed by the World Health Organization. The guests for the event were Dr. Annie Mathew, Consultant, working with public health and development sector, and Dr. Priyali Shah, programme coordinator, Diabetes Foundation of India. They enlightened the students on how to be healthy in today's fast world, and gave basic tips on sanitation and hygiene. They also discussed about importance of intake of nutrients, and physical exercise.
There was a question-answer round at the end of the discussion. Students of our school highlighted the importance of health, through a dialogue discussion.
Posters were also made by students to create awareness in & around the school.
Workshop on Career Guidance for NCC Girls
Five NCC Girls Cadets from classes VIII and IX attended a workshop on Career guidance by Ms. Namrata which informed about the Job opportunities in this sector. Workshop was held at NCC girls 'B' Group headquarters on 6th of April 2010.
Earth Hour
St. Paul's School took the initiative of supporting the 'Earth Hour' on 27th March 2010. Students and teachers took a pledge on saving the Earth and switching off ligths & fans for an hour from 8.30 pm to 9.30 pm. Students and teachers were also given a badge and bookmark as a token for supporting the cause.
