New Activity For Routes 2 Roots
On Thursday 18 August 2011 the members of Routes to Roots came to our school to conduct another activity. They visited classes 8 & 9. Every section of these classes was divided into groups of 4 & each group was handed out a photograph that had been posted by the students of ILM School, Pakistan. Behind every photograph there was a description about what that particular photo indicated and why they had chosen that photo. A student from every group was asked to stand and show the photo to the whole class & then read the description written behind it. After that activity, students were handed out forms in which they had to answer some questions which were mostly about the similarities between India and Pakistan.

AFS Intercultural Programs
AFS or American Field Service is committed to intercultural learning. Through AFS program, students are removed temporarily from their home environment and introduced to differing values, ways of life and patterns of thought in completely new environments. Learning through an AFS experience involves growth and change in terms of personal relationship building, intercultural knowledge and sensitivity to global issues.
Hosting a student from another country is a challenge and an opportunity. Involvement with an exchange student challenges a host family to become familiar with another culture, while providing the opportunity to share the students hopes and ambitions.
Last year St.Paul's School had taken the initiative of hosting 2 students from Italy, for a year. They were Carolina Giacomel and Giuditta Mazzi. Carolina stayed with Akansha Aggarwal of class X and her family while Giuditta stayed with Megha Rai of class XI and her family. They both studied in class XI in St.Paul's School.
It was heartening to see that many of our students are interested in going to a foreign country under the A FS program. If they meet the requirements, very soon a few of them would be able to go abroad to study and stay with the host families abroad either on a short term or a long term exchange program.

Gifty Samuel of class XI A was selected for one year Scholarship programme by AFS. Gifty left for Alaska, USA for one year in the first week of August. She is hosted there by a family and would be continuing her education in USA.
In Gifty's Words: " Hi I am fine here . This is a very nice place and resembles Kerala, but the lifestyle is totally different. My school has started and the subjects I have chosen are Alaska studies, Chemistry, Pre calculus and trigo, English , Marine biology and Oceanography and Basketball. The choice of subjects here is very flexible. My host family is great, with Mom and one more exchange student from Ghana. My mom is very nice and we went for hiking for 4 miles which was great fun. In totality I' m having a nice time.
I would like to hear about any news of my school and please keep praying for me.
Thanks and bye."
